What is the Usage Dashboard?

The Usage Dashboard shows your API usage for the current and past monthly billing cycles. To access the Usage Dashboard, navigate to the “Usage” tab under your organization settings, or visit https://platform.openai.com/account/usage.

The Usage Dashboard has two views: Costs and Activity. Depending on your current view, if you are the organization owner, you can use the “Export” button to download your organization’s cost or activity data. Note that you can export up to 60 days of data, and data may be delayed. All timestamps are based on UTC.




View by Activity
When tracking is enabled, the Usage Dashboard and usage export feature can show metrics at the API key level. Note that API keys created after December 20, 2023 have tracking enabled by default.

This makes it easy to view usage by setting up separate API keys for each feature, team, product, or project.




You can select and view usage broken down by top users in your organization, and if your organization is an enterprise customer with a consolidated billing structure, you can also view top organizations and top API keys sorted by usage.




Is API key usage for every user in my organization tracked?
For security reasons, API keys are associated with the user level rather than the organization level, and can be found in user settings. API keys created after December 20, 2023 have tracking enabled by default; historical API keys can opt in to tracking when the user enables tracking.

Because API keys are referenced by the user’s default organization, tracking will also only appear in the Usage Dashboard of the default organization. When a user belongs to multiple organizations, they can update this default organization in their user settings. For an organization’s administrators to track all API keys generated by their users, each user needs to ensure that their API keys have tracking enabled and that their default organization is set to the same organization.

View by Costs
In this view, you can monitor daily costs, monthly spend, and credit grants for the current and previous months. Owners can also view past invoices here.
