The DALL·E editor interface lets you edit images by selecting the area of the image you want to edit and describing your changes in chat. You can also provide a prompt for the desired edit in the conversation panel without using the selection tool.
You can access the DALL·E editor interface by clicking on an image generated by DALL·E.



Understanding the DALL·E editor interface
The editor interface provides a range of options for highlighting the parts of the generated image that you want to update.



In the upper-left corner of the editor, you can change the size of the selection tool to easily highlight the area you want to update. We recommend selecting a larger area around the region you want to edit for better results.



You can also use the “Undo” and “Redo” buttons above the image to undo and redo selections, or select “Clear selection” to start over completely.

Editing with the DALL·E editor interface
The editor interface lets you add, remove, and update certain parts of an image.
For example, by highlighting the top corner of the image and using the prompt “add cherry blossoms,” we get the following result:



You can also remove objects from an image. In the following example, the bird is highlighted and the prompt “remove the bird” is used:


You can update specific features of an object in the selection. In the following example, the kitten's face is highlighted and the prompt “change the cat's expression to happy” is used:

You can save your creation by selecting the “Save” button in the upper-right corner of the editor.


Conversational editing with DALL·E
You can also choose to provide a prompt for the desired edit in the conversation panel on the right side of the DALL·E editor interface without using the selection tool. If you want the edit to apply to a specific area of the image, we recommend including that information in the prompt.

For example, the following prompt updates the image to black and white: “make it black and white”.

You can access the DALL·E editor interface on the ChatGPT mobile app by selecting an image generated by DALL·E.
Selecting “Edit” enables the option to provide a prompt for the desired edit in the conversation panel:




Selecting “Select” gives you access to the selection tool, allowing you to highlight the parts of the image you want to edit. The slider on the left side of the screen lets you change the size of the selection tool, and the undo and redo buttons at the bottom of the screen let you undo and redo your selections.



After making your selection, select “Next” in the lower-right corner of the screen. In the conversation panel, you can complete the edit by describing the changes you want to make to the highlighted area of the image.
