OpenAI's announcement “will help GPTs creators make money in the future” states that in the future profits will be distributed based on users' usage of the GPTs created by creators. For example, if the GPTs you made are used by 1,000 people, then profits may be shared with you based on the usage of those 1,000 people.
How to acquire users
The official number of GPTs has now exceeded 3 million. The only traffic entry point is the official featured GPTs channel. Obviously, the available slots are limited; if you want users, creators still have to acquire them externally themselves. At present, some bloggers in China have a large number of AI-related followers and have created practical GPTs, with decent user numbers.
It has been a long time since the announcement. Currently, the GPT Store has not made any new moves. With the launch of Sora, I think most manpower has been invested in Sora, and the GPT Store may be delayed.
Other monetization methods
Other monetization methods depend on our GPTs themselves making money. This is very practical: GPTs truly work for users and deliver results, and users paying is a healthy usage model—such as membership, performance-based pricing, and outright purchase. Whatever the method, the goal is to deliver tangible results.
Case sharing
1. An influencer from a design media outlet uses GPTs to imitate herself and chat with fans, but charges per use.
2. In a fire safety training program, trainees use an examiner GPT to obtain data and take tests.
3. The moderator's consistency comic assistant was recognized and bought out by a self-media company; the client uses the moderator's tool to create comics.
4. Many others have embedded GPTs into official websites and added payment functionality on the outer webpage layer.
These are all cases with customer satisfaction: customers gained value, and GPTs also realized value.
